Indomitable Women – a conversation with Arundhati Bhattacharya

As women’s history month continues, I wanted to celebrate some of the inspirational female leaders that I met last week at the India Global Forum in Bengaluru.

I had the pleasure of reuniting with Arundhati at last week’s India Global Forum. She reflected on the unique challenges, perceptions and decisions facing women and the power of resilience and determination.

Arundhati’s new book is called Indomitable: A Working Woman’s Notes on Work, Life and Leadership.

The title is significant.

For Arundhati,”every single woman who is managing a career and family needs to be indomitable in some way or the other.” She highlights that women face unique roadblocks, perceptions and decisions that require resilience and determination to navigate.

Throughout an extraordinary career, that saw her become the first female Chair of the State Bank of India, Arundhati’s defining message is the power of leading from the front and helping others to succeed alongside you.

This is why she introduced a two-year sabbatical policy for women employees at the State Bank. This enabled women to pursue higher education or care for children or elderly relatives, without having to sacrifice their careers.
